Equipment & Warranties
Solar systems are built to last decades. Understanding each component and its warranty helps you know what’s protected and for how long.
1) Solar Panels
Panels convert sunlight into electricity. Look for Tier 1 manufacturers offering 25–30 year performance warranties guaranteeing at least 80–85% of rated output after 25 years.
2) Inverters
The inverter converts DC power to AC. Central inverters typically carry 10–15 year warranties, while microinverters and optimizers often extend to 20–25 years.
3) Racking & Mounting
Mounting hardware keeps panels secure and weatherproof. Expect 10–25 year warranties covering corrosion and structural integrity.
4) Batteries
Lithium-ion home batteries (like Tesla Powerwall or Enphase IQ Battery) typically have 10-year warranties guaranteeing a minimum of 70–80% capacity retention.
5) Workmanship / Labor
Most installers provide a 10-year workmanship warranty covering roof penetrations, wiring, and other installation-related issues.
Pro Tip
- Ask whether your installer’s warranty covers labor to replace a part.
- Check that manufacturer warranties are transferable if you sell your home.
- Keep all warranty documents and serial numbers on file.
